The Technology program at Kindlehill includes woodwork, metal work, food technology, permaculture, and film making. The construction of the Artisan Workshop in our new technology building sees students enjoying a well-resourced space where classes have access to materials, hand tools and machinery to design, develop and create.

Woodwork: High school has a variety of guest teachers from our local community who are specialists in their fields. Recently, students have made woodworking tools, constructed stools and small tables, and carved spoons. 

Metalwork: Working with High School teacher Stephanie, students learn the techniques of annealing, filing, soldering and sanding to make a sterling silver ring, and then apply these skills to their own unique silver pendant, using the ‘design process’ to guide their journey.

Food Technology and Permaculture: Under the tutelage of PDHPE teacher Lindsay, students work in Kindlehill’s kitchen to create delicious and nutritious meals which are enjoyed by the group at lunchtime. Ingredients are regularly procured from the school’s abundant garden where Lindsay also works with the seasons to teach permaculture.

Film Making: Working with English teacher Stephanie, students produce a variety of short films for local film competitions. Students have had many successes over recent years, with Class 8/9 students winning ‘Best Comedy’ in Blackheath Neighbourhood Centre’s ‘Blue Shorts Film Festival’ in 2019, and Class 9/10 awarded equal first place and second place at the Rural Australians for Refugees Video Competition in 2020.

Year 10 Individual Projects: These individual creative tasks are in keeping with Kindlehill’s current focus on Necessary Traditions and Sustainability and are inspired in 2020 by the theme, ‘The more beautiful world our hearts know is possible’.

Lynn Daniel Class 5-6 Teacher

Originally a high school teacher in the public system, Lynn has also taught at TAFE and in community settings. In the Steiner context, she has previously been a kindergarten and primary school teacher. In addition to her roles as Chair and Principal, Lynn is High School Co-Ordinator, teaches Geography and History, and co-ordinates the Outdoor Education Programme. Lynn has a B. Arts (UWA) and a Dip. Ed. (WA Secondary Teachers College).
